Sumitomo Construction Machinery Manufacturing Co Ltd of Chiba Japan has released a new 16 tonne class excavator to the Australian market, which is an addition to the new DASH 5 Series, and will be known as the model SH160-5.

This model has a complete new livery in keeping with the SH210-5 , SH240-5 and SH300-5 models and its main features are:

ENGINE HYDRAULICS - New Tier 3 Isuzu engine model developing 89.2kw @ 2200 rpm with a common rail and pressurised fuel injection system, new work modes for greater fuel efficiency, and a new hydraulic oil flow control for increased pump efficiency.

DURABILITY - Stronger boom and arm, ridged upper side frame with improved undercarriage components for longer wear life.

MAINTENANCE - Fuel tank increased to 300 litres, engine oil drain coupler, dual filter air cleaner, high performance hydrualic return line filter and ground level maintenance for ease of servicing.

OPERATOR COMFORT - Larger cabin and with new KAB 825 reclining suspension seat for optimum operator comfort, sliding seat and tilting console to improve operator ergonomics, auto air conditioning and pressurised cabin with lower in-cab operational noise levels.

SAFETY - Wide operating view to the front and side of the machine for improved safety on the work site, new gate safety control lock levers, large step and handrail to improved operator entry and exit from the cabin and an emergency safety stop switch which can be activated by a by-stander.

This model comes standard with a 2.62m dipper arm, .63m3 bucket, 500mm Grouser Shoes and has as an option 600mm or 700mm shoes.
